I found this message board since I have heard alot of negative stuff about Accutane,, and I am one of a few people I know who had a good experience with this drug. I had horrible inflamed acne at 25,, and had been battling this since high school,, and I was put on Accutane back in 1996-97 when it wasnt on the market long. I had never heard of this drug before and was frustrated with taking antiobiotics off and on,, I do remember my doctor telling me I could not get pregnant while taking this, and she was very firm about it. I also remember having to get a blood test every month while taking it. I did experience very dry, cracked lips and my hair was like straw. I also noticed my hands were rough and dry,,, but I didnt have any severe side effects. Well after taking it for about 6-7 months, my acne cleared up and its been 10 years since I took it,,,, I have not had to go back on it, and I was amazed at how much this stuff helped me. I am sorry for the patients who have not had good experiences on this. Like all drugs, some do more harm than good. I am still shocked that women are not educating themselves while taking this-it seems some doctors arent even telling their female patients the risks of accutane and pregnancy. I think Pharmacists also need to remind women the dangers of taking this while pregnant. It seems there should be some legal paperwork that should be completed before any woman of child-bearing age can take this drug-but I also don't think Roche should be 100% responsible for birth defects due to using this. I think there's alot of literature with the medication on the dangers of getting PG while taking this. Am I wrong to be this judgemental? I have been reading alot of hate-spewing posts regarding this drug but it has helped alot of people. Like all drugs, some dont work for everyone.
