For all those of you who think accutane could help,
I am 22 years old. I took accutane when I was 15. I took the strongest dosage possible. Accutane was of course for my acne. I did not have severe acne by any means but more then the average Joe. I was 5'9 235lbs. I was very athletic. I had a good time in high school. My parents thought that I could use a little help with my acne so of course I went to a dermatologist and he prescribe the accutane. Keep in mind that accutane is only recommended for patients who have severe acne. Like all the posters you see in the office. If you do not have that kind of acne you shouldn't be taking it in the first place. Which 90% of the people that take it do not. You guessed right I was a part of that 90% group.
So I start to take the accutane and it was pretty nasty stuff. Imagine leprosy of the face.Your skin is always dry. You always feel tired and cant preform at your best in anything you do. There are the nose bleeds the diahrea and the constantly chappy lips. Though these side effects are normal in a lot of pills we take now anyways. I weighed the pros and cons given to me at the time. Decided I would stick through it.
Little did I know that was the biggest mistake of my life. I took it for about 5 months. After about a month my mom noticed me a lot more violent. I was beating up kids at school. I was happy one second and mad the next. My mom thought I was just growing up and it was my way of coping with it. What she didn't know was that every night I thought about what would be the easiest way to make it all end. I had no worries. My dad made well over 600,000 a year. I had a girlfriends and was pretty popular at school. My parents took me into the doctor and he sat me down and had me take a test. This test didn't ask me if I wanted to kill myself. I wouldn't have ever told anyone because I always thought they would send me to some nut house. But the doctor diagnosed me with depression. I started taking Effexor XR. I have been taking that for about 3 years now.
There is another part to this drug. I get very angry at times and have trouble controlling my anger. I find my self in these moods where I just want to hurt someone or something.
Then I started reading up on accutane. I found how many people have killed themselves. Then I saw how many people have had psychiatric problems. Now they even tell you to sign an letter of consent to watch out for these problems required by the FDA. Had I of known that it would cause irreversible problems I would have never taken the drug.
If you still choose to take accutane. May god be with you. He is the only reason I am here and talking to you. If you would like a timeline of what has happened with accutane please click here. www.house.gov/stupak/accu...nology.htm
Hoffman La-Roche (Roche) doesn't care about you. They will say anything to get your money. They will deny any reports of it. Why else would they have you sign a form saying they will not be held responsible for the side effects. Are you willing to take that chance? Knowing all this now. I would most certainly not be willing to take that chance.
Sincerely,
Michael Gast
